EXHIBITION
Laws of Folk is a solo exhibition by British-Caribbean artist Ezra Myers, presented in London from 4-12 October 2026.
Across large-scale figurative drawings, collage and material intervention, the exhibition considers the unwritten codes that shape Afro-diasporic life: ritual, performance, spirituality, survival and presence.
Rooted in Caribbean cultural inheritance and shaped by the visual languages of Trinidadian Carnival, the works do not treat folklore as something remote or illustrative. They move through it as a living force.
Figures emerge at life scale, carrying masks, gesture, music and concealed forms within the image. The exhibition brings together a new body of work in which the figure becomes a site of encounter, transformation and cultural continuity.
Opening in London during Black History Month 2026, Laws of Folk will present selected works alongside further pieces to be unveiled ahead of the exhibition.

This is not a portrait of Mary Seacole. It is a portrait of what she carried.
Mary in the Light considers the presence, labour and inheritance carried by Mary Seacole. Charcoal, ink and collage hold the sacred and the earthly, the elevated and the raw, within one image.

Jay is an earlier work in which the language of the practice began to take shape. Created in 2014, it marks an early formation of Myers’ interest in expression, shadow, sincerity and the architecture of the face.
Further works will be revealed in the lead-up to the exhibition.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ezra Myers is a British-Caribbean artist based in London, working across drawing, collage and moving image.
His practice explores Afro-diasporic folklore, ancestral presence, masks and inherited cultural knowledge: the codes carried through ritual, story, performance and image across generations.
Working at life size and architectural scale, Myers creates works in which the figure becomes an encounter rather than an image.
